Why Locals Love EJJI
EJJI is a vibrant dining gem nestled inside Whole Foods at Baltimore’s Harbor East, specializing in bold, contemporary Japanese-inspired cuisine that masterfully balances tradition with innovation. This restaurant offers a flavorful journey through thoughtfully crafted dishes brimming with rich textures and lively spice that awaken your palate with every bite.
At EJJI, the menu shines with standout offerings such as the Karaage Japanese style chicken tenders, perfectly crispy and dusted with togarashi spice, served alongside a bright, citrus aioli that cuts through the savory crunch with refreshing zest. If you’re craving something more substantial, the Sesame Sando Buns are a must-try delight. The Harbor Hen Fried Chicken Cutlet is tender and juicy, complemented beautifully by shredded lettuce and a Sichuan pepper mayo that delivers a subtle numbing heat, while the Spicy Pork Belly Sando packs a bold punch with pineapple jicama slaw and a spicy Thai basil glaze that tantalizes the senses. Vegetarian diners will appreciate the Whole Point Sando which layers sautéed mushrooms with grilled zucchini, charred tomatoes, and a hint of sweet caramelized onion jam—each bite a harmonious blend of earthy and sweet.
For communal and shareable moments, the Ejji Kingdom Wings come in generous portions—perfectly crispy and generously seasoned, ideal for savoring with friends while overlooking the stunning vistas of Harbor East from EJJI’s airy second-floor seating area. The space itself is a welcoming retreat where natural light dances across modern interiors, creating an inviting atmosphere that feels both relaxed and stylish. The ambiance makes it a fantastic spot not only for casual lunches but also for quiet work sessions or catching up with friends.
Guests repeatedly praise EJJI for its freshness and creative flavors. Helen Quinn highlighted the thoughtful, made-to-order dishes that warm you up on chilly days, while John T. raved about the “amazing tonkotsu and duck ramen,” calling it among the best he’s ever tasted. The restaurant’s mindful approach to balancing spice and flavor complexity is evident in customer favorites like the spicy pork noodles, which deliver an elegant floral note of Szechuan peppercorn without overwhelming newcomers.

What a wonderful cafe to eat. A nice surprise to have freshly made food with a view. It was a chilly day & I wanted some soup. The chef made suggestions & created it to my liking. It was delicious. My friend had children over salad greens & said it was very good. Atmosphere overlooks Harbor East from the second floor over Whole Foods. Take the elevators off the inside of the building. Open seating with lots of windows. We had asked for directions on the street & the man highly recommended. I can see why.

Heads up, this is located inside Whole Foods! Otherwise, you will make circles around the building looking for it. I only had their Chicken Shoyu Ramen. It was pretty good! Nothing spectacular, but absolutely nothing to complain about. Since this was a chicken based broth, the taste is different than traditional ramen that I have had in Japan or other places. Not bad, but different. Wasn't disappointed, but traditionalists need to know what they are getting into. On an additional note, the employee at the counter was amazing. Very informative, customer service oriented, and enhanced my experience.

Stopped in for some lunch and ordered the spicy pork noodles. Absolutely delicious with lots of Szechuan peppercorn floral flavor. It was a big bowl and I just had the leftovers for lunch. Wish I didn’t live 7 hours away! Now I want to try everything!

Amazing tonkotsu and duck ramen, probably one of the best tonkotsu I’ve ever had.

I wasn't expecting the food to be this good at a place I only stopped at because it was on top of the whole foods I was doing my groceries at. The area is nice and spacious and not too busy so it was a great place to work as well. The mushroom noodles I ordered had a good kick of szechuan pepper corn which I really appreciated. It also wasn't so strong that you couldn't bring a first timer here.

I found this business at an Asia in the Bite fest last year and they've become hands down my favorite ramen in the DMV area. I travel from the eastern shore of maryland for the dry noods, nothing else I've tasted has been similiar or come close. Last night I came in 10 minutes before closing and still recieved impeccable service. I will continue to spread the word to all my fellow ramen lovers this is a must try. Also in my order last night tried their hot honey chicken sandwich special. Perfection!

Great hand pulled noodles in Baltimore on the second floor of the Whole Foods. We ordered the Fiery Pork noodles which is a brothless noodle. The noodles weee fresh and the flavors were bold with a subtle spice. The weather was beautiful so we sat outside with a nice waterfront view. FYI they do parking validation for the garage too. Would come again!

I recently visited EJJI in Baltimore, a cozy spot offering Malaysian-style Asian comfort food. The flavors were bold and satisfying, with standout dishes like the fried chicken sandwich. The sandwich was crispy, well-seasoned, and came with perfectly cooked fries, making for a comforting meal. Another highlight was their ground pork dry noodles, which had a rich, savory sauce that clung beautifully to the thick noodles. The pork was tender, flavorful, and perfectly spiced, making the dish one of my favorites. However, my experience was somewhat marred by the fact that they closed about 75% of their menu one hour before closing time. It was disappointing, especially for a first-time visitor eager to try more items from their diverse menu. I understand the challenges of running a kitchen near closing time, but it would have been nice to have more options available. Despite that, EJJI is a great spot for those looking for flavorful, comforting food with a unique twist. I’d give it a 3.8-star rating — it could easily be higher if the full menu was available closer to closing time. Be sure to come earlier to get the full experience!
